Bluetooth technology in cars can hook your cell phone to a hands-free headset or it can hook up to your iPod and play the music through your car speakers. There are many other things you can use Bluetooth technology in cars, but playing music and talking on the phone are two of the most used activities.
Bluetooth technology in cars works very much like a combination of a radio and a walkie-talkie. It just doesn't pick up one kind of radio frequency, however. It can pick up several frequencies of radio waves. This is how it can concentrate on one source of information at a time, instead of trying to broadcast all radio stations or telephone conversations in the area at once.
Data or information is sent in units called "packets" to your Bluetooth device. This could be your phone sending it to your headset, for example. Bluetooth can only work in a small area, such as your car. Somebody else with a wireless handheld device or a laptop and a good encryption program can listen in on your packets sent between your Bluetooth and your electronic devices. However, they pretty much have to be in the car with you in order to transmit any malware (malicious software). However, you should never have your Bluetooth on when you have somebody you do not know in your car. You also should keep your Bluetooth hidden, if at all possible.

So, what is Bluetooth technology? It's a radio for wireless devices. It's also a translator, making, say, phones with Bluetooth technology able to download information to your PC or Laser printer.
